We are going a little further!

We have some exciting new ideas that will help us as we work with the homeless population.  We are planning on conducting several clinics this fall where we will go beyond handouts and simple meals. We are planning on taking our motor home into the downtown area of Birmingham on Saturdays and setting up a base camp for the day. We will have teams of people who will work together with the street people to meet some of their deeper needs. Since many people on the streets are lacking the basic things they need to function in society, we will not only give them a meal and clothing, we will also be helping them with deeper needs. Needs such as eyeglasses, resume building, obtaining their birth certificate, obtaining proper identification, counseling,  setting up e-mail accounts and other helpful tasks that they may need assistance with. Wouldn’t it be great to share a meal with someone, help them with some of these types of needs and all the while be witnessing to them about the saving grace of God? Simply put, if we say we love them then we should be willing to go the extra mile with them.
Hopefully, we will be able to perfect these types of clinics and then be able to do the same in cities wherever the opportunity rises. This would be a great way to help churches help the needy in their hometowns. Please pray that this new outreach goes well.

As we move forward from here, I realize that it will take more commitment from our family and, as usual, more resources. Going beyond the norm is always going to cost a little more. For example, helping someone obtain a birth certificate usually costs somewhere between $15 to $50. A state ID is usually $10-$20. Of course, fuel to move our motor home, ministry trailer and suburban is always a consideration as well. A single day of conducting these much needed clinics could cost several hundred dollars. We are not afraid of these expenses. As I type this letter, April is out buying food for a lady in Birmingham who has finally moved into an apartment and simply needs a little help. Saturday night I put a traveling man up in the Sleep Inn here in Cullman. We simply trust the Lord to provide for our family as well as for those we minister to. As always, we do covet your prayers and invite your support. We believe that the homeless population needs the gospel message most of all. Thank you for your love, care and support of our family and ministry.
Yours for the homeless, Travis Sharpe
